The work, defined
Fire-resistance-rated walls and floors divide a building into compartments that contain fire and smoke long enough for occupants to leave and responders to work. Every pipe, conduit, cable, and duct that passes through a rated assembly creates an opening in that compartment — and building codes require each opening to be protected by a firestop system tested for that specific combination of assembly, penetrating item, and sealing materials.
A firestop system is not a product. It is a tested configuration.
Sealant applied outside the parameters of a tested listing — the wrong depth, the wrong annular space, missing backing material — does not carry a rating, regardless of what the sealant tube says. This is the most common reason firestop work fails inspection.
Gateway's scope is limited to this trade. Each condition is matched to a published UL listing before installation; where no listing fits the field condition, an engineering judgment is requested from the system manufacturer rather than improvising a detail.
Scope of services
Gateway performs work under direct subcontract to general contractors, as a lower-tier subcontractor to trade contractors whose scopes include firestopping, and directly for building owners and facility managers.

Through-penetration and joint firestop systems for commercial new construction and tenant improvement, installed to tested UL listings.
Repair & remediation
Correction of firestop deficiencies identified by fire marshals, third-party special inspectors, or facility barrier surveys, on occupied or active sites.

Interior and exterior commercial joint sealants, performed with the same specification discipline applied to rated work.
Method
The same four steps apply to a full bid package and a one-day repair scope. The documentation exists because inspectors, special inspectors, and building owners ask for it.
Each field condition is matched to a published UL listing. Where none applies, an engineering judgment is requested from the manufacturer.
Materials, depth, annular space, and backing installed as tested — the parameters that make a rating valid.
A printed label at each penetration records the system number, F-rating, and installation date.
Photographs of the labeled installations are compiled into a penetration log and delivered with the completed work.
